Koni Shocks + King Spring Combo!

Hey!

My suspension in my 2006 Mazda 3 SP23 is pretty much shagged. It is seriously lacking rebound, and gets very floaty and wandery when it gets bumpy on the road and under braking.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I've managed to secure myself a set of MPS brakes (still no idea what pads would be ideal - suggestions, EBC Green/Red/Yellow?), and so I'm going to swap the brakes and the suspension out myself all at the same time.

So, to my question - I've been able to price up a full set of Koni STR-T shocks, and King springs (small lowering ~ 30mm) for approximately 1100 AUD, and am wondering if anyone out there has had experience with this combination, or has any suggestions for a readily available alternative suspension combination that offers a small improvement over stock?

I eagerly await the forums wisdom! :nerd:

No experience with that myself. Maybe someone else can chime in. Personally i have Koni yellows and a pro-kit and couldn't be happier.

For pads, OEM is best, but if that's too expensive, sure, go with some major manufacturer's street pads (not racing).

Unlike the yellow Koni Sport, Koni STR.T does not enjoy a good reputation for wisely-chosen damping values or longevity. For a good low-cost stock equivalent, consider KYB Excel-G.

If you lower the car, you'll need considerably stiffer springs and shocks, and your rear tires will cup even more rapidly than they already do unless you spend even more money on crude aftermarket links and several hours on alignment experiments (camber is not adjustable without removing the links from the car).
